Private ADHD Titration There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and increased global demand. Titration A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted with a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services. One way to get around this is to ask your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that provides a private assessment service and the titration. This can cut down on wait time considerably and can be more convenient if you are working and have a hectic schedule. If you are referred through this route the doctor you choose will evaluate you and determine whether or not you need to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will need to complete forms that are different for each provider however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories dating back to childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor to determine if there are any factors that could mean that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications, in the event that they've been prescribed. If you are being titrated the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medications. The combination will be carefully tested and monitored to determine the best combination for you, taking into account any current conditions you suffer from. The titration can be a lengthy process and may require multiple appointments before the dose becomes stable. The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and quantity of medication that you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician checking to see if you are on the right medication, noting any adverse effects you've experienced and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you remain in a safe dosage. You will be required to attend an annual review and a regular health check-up that includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.
